Taveerne Fort Asperen

Naast Fort Asperen staat de oude wapenloods. Hierin huist tegenwoordig ’de Taveerne’, bezoekers van het fort kunnen hier al jaren terecht voor een kop koffie, een broodje. Ook zijn er culturele manifestaties, repetities, vergaderingen en presentaties. Maar de taveerne is oud, een beetje moe…en in de winter niet de meest comfortabele plek om te verblijven. Het fort en het forteiland worden gerestaureerd, de Taveerne ook. Bureau SLA maakte voor het forteiland de toekomstvisie, het masterplan en werkt nu aan de transformatie van de wapenloods.

Omdat het huidige bestemmingsplan geen ruimte laat voor extra vierkante meters bebouwing op het eiland, wordt de ruimte gezocht onder het maaiveld. Onder de oude wapenloods wordt een nieuwe geïsoleerde kelder gebouwd, van waaruit in het midden een houten huisje de begane grond in steekt tot aan het dak van de loods. Alle nieuwbouw onder en in de taveerne wordt verwarmd, de resterende ruimte krijgt een halfklimaat. De wapenloods houdt zijn karakteristieke uitstraling, maar krijgt een spectaculaire nieuwe invulling die past bij het culturele karakter van het Kunsteiland.

Nationaal Glasmuseum |||National Glass Museum

Het Nationaal Glasmuseum in Leerdam verzamelt, onderzoekt en toont beeldende kunst en vormgeving in glas van 1850 tot heden. Het is schatkamer, laboratorium en kenniscentrum van het Nederlandse glas. In 1953 werd het glasmuseum ingericht in het woonhuis van Cochius, de grondlegger van het Leerdamse glas. In de afgelopen 55 jaar is de villa nooit structureel verbouwd. Verwerving van het naastgelegen pand biedt mogelijkheden tot verdubbeling van het museumoppervlak.

Het nieuwe ontwerp voor het glasmuseum koppelt beide oude villa’s aan elkaar door middel van ‘verbindingszalen’. Hierdoor ontstaan lange lijnen en worden de tentoonstellingszalen 40 meter lang. The Dutch National Glass Museum collects, examines and exhibits glass art and design from 1850 onwards. It serves as the Netherlands’ treasury, laboratory and centre of knowledge on glass. The Glass Museum was started in 1953 in the house of Petrus Marinus Cochius, director of Leerdam glass manufacturers and founder of the Leerdam glass tradition.

Having two villas is charming, but provides the visitor with nothing else than to walk from one small room to another. By linking the two buildings, continuous exhibition rooms are created. The connection is more than a corridor; it is display space itself and becomes part of the visitor’s experience. Furthermore, the connecting bridges serve as the museum’s storage space. This open storage is fully accessible, making the National Glass Museum the Netherland’s first museum to give public access to its complete collection. Het nieuwe Nationale Museum van Noorwegen komt op een prominente plek in de stad. Gelegen aan het water, tussen het stadhuis, het centrum en het nieuwe Akerbrygge gebied, komt het nieuwe Nationale Museum van Noorwegen op een prominente plek. Het is, gezien het aantal foto’s op Google Earth, een van de meest gefotografeerde plekken in de stad.

Direct voor het museum staat het Nobel Peace Centre, waar ieder jaar de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede wordt uitgereikt. De kunst bij het maken van dit museum was om te zorgen dat het 50.000 m2 grote museumcomplex een icoon wordt voor de stad, maar zonder het Nobelprijsgebouw weg te drukken: it has to be an icon – but not an alien. Het museum is overdag een liggende sculptuur, ‘s avonds een spectaculaire diamant.

||| True North is at the same time a very systematic and a very playful museum design. Based on a triangle motif, which is remotely reminiscent of the murals by Henrik Sørensen in the town hall of Oslo and which re-appears on all scales of the building, it has a very clear identity, without becoming a simplistic logo. Although unobtrusive in silhouette in order to contribute to and blend into the city fabric, its elegantly shiny material and triangular structure make it a recognizable building. This recognizability informs the outside as well as the inside of the museum, making its interior a white cube with identity – tributary to the artworks, but never generic.

In opdracht van het Dutch Design Centre is een onderzoek verricht naar de toekomst voor de bestaande complexen van de Pastoe fabrieken. Meubelfabriek UMS Pastoe is sinds 1913 gevestigd aan Rotsoord 3 langs de Vaartsche Rijn nabij het centrum van Utrecht. Als gevolg van flexibilisering van de meubelproductie is het ruimtebeslag door de Pastoefabriek in het complex van gebouwen in de loop der jaren minder geworden. Het haalbaarheidsonderzoek voorziet in behoud van diverse functies van UMS Pastoe zoals die nu in het complex zijn ondergebracht, met aanvulling van functies die de kwaliteiten van Pastoe versterken: duurzaamheid, kwaliteit, innovatie en engagement. In het onderzoek wordt nadrukkelijk stilgestaan bij de financiële haalbaarheid van een herontwikkeling.

Dutch Design Centre asked us to study the feasibility of redevelopment of the famous Pastoe Plant in Utrecht. The factory UMS Pastoe exists since 1913 in the centre of the city. In the course of years the production of furniture has become less space consuming due to flexibilisation of the production processes. The redevelopment design research combines existing functions with new functions that strengthen the qualities of Pastoe: sustainability, quality, innovation and engagement. The research emphasizes the financial feasibility of the redevelopment.
